Steven's Story

#MyYUstory

Hi. I’m Steven Kohane and I am majoring in chemistry with a minor in public health. I’m originally from Pittsburgh, PA.

In 2016, I won a Kressel Scholarship to work on "The Effect of Anionic Ligands in the Copper-Catalyzed Aromatic Acyloxylation of Aryl Halides” with Professor Barrios-Landeros. This work should help to simplify synthesizing medications for the pharmaceutical industry. After college I plan to study dentistry and have already been accepted at the University of Pittsburgh Dental School.

I’ve also made sure to have my share of fun at YU.  I’ve also enjoyed playing ultimate frisbee, attending night seder, and serving as president of YU’s radio station WYUR. My radio program, “Sunday Night Heights,” is a sports talk show which I recorded with co-host Eitan Lindenberg. We spoke with guests about news, politics, Jewish issues, racism in sports, etc. That’s something about YU; it’s a great outlet for creative expression.

I chose YU because I wanted a college with a serious Jewish atmosphere that included daily Torah learning but also with a focus on challenging academics. I found them both at YU.
