Sarah's Story

#MyYUstory

Hi! I’m Sarah Torgueman and I grew up in the Sephardic community in Brooklyn, New York.

Looking back at the last four years at YU, I wouldn’t have it any other way. One of the reasons I chose YU was to experience the City. Though I live at home, I love that I have opportunity to study in Manhattan. Being in such a prime location allows me to network easily and diligently with career professionals throughout the city.

As a senior at Sy Syms, I’m studying Finance as well as Business Intelligence and Marketing Analytics. This has enabled me to exercise and strengthen my analytical skill set by complementing investment analysis and corporate finance with data analytics to prepare me for informed decision making. I have also expanded my course load to make the most of the new Strategy and Entrepreneurship concentration by taking courses taught by seasoned professionals in industries such as venture capital and real estate management.

I am proud to be involved in TAMID at YU, a serious business club on campus. TAMID connects students to business in Israel through hands on learning through case studies and consulting remotely for Israeli companies, after which it culminates with an 8-week summer fellowship in Israel. It has been incredible to collaborate and learn from such brilliant business minded students at YU and gain exposure to complex business problems within the Israeli business ecosystem.

Through the Sephardic Club, I’ve gotten to know students from a multitude of Sephardic backgrounds including the large international community that is present at YU. I’ve also had the opportunity to spend Shabbat on campus with close friends who have hosted me, which has been both fun and inspirational.

The most impactful part of my experience at YU has honestly been the professors who I’ve learned so much from. Dr. Sharon Poczter and Dean Michael Strauss have been there for me from the start, including each of the professors I’ve had the privilege to learn from who have truly encouraged me to develop and succeed.

The alumni network at YU has also been a significant outlet for me to effectively network, explore various career paths, and secure job opportunities. I am looking forward to graduating in May and harnessing the skills I’ve learned toward the next steps of my life. I am tremendously grateful for my time at YU.
