Dr. Nora Nachumi is Professor of English, Director of the Minor in Women's Studies at Stern College for Women, and Co-Chair of the Academic Integrity Committee for the undergraduate colleges. She received a BA in English with honors from the State University of New York at Purchase, a PhD in English and a certificate in Women's Studies from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
My scholarship focuses on celebrity studies, eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British literature and culture, with an emphasis on theater, and on women writers, including Jane Austen, Frances Burney, and Elizabeth Inchbald. I teach courses relevant to those subjects as well as courses on literary genres, including comedy and satire and detective fiction, women's studies coureses, and courses on film.

I have written articles and book chapters on eighteenth-century novelists and performers, film adaptation, and teaching. I am also the author of Acting Like a Lady: British Women Novels and the Eighteenth-Century Stage (2008), and co-editor of Jane Austen, Sex, and Romance: Engaging with Desire in the Novels and Beyond (2022) and Making Stars: Biography and Celebrity in Eighteenth-Century Britain (2022)
