Dr. Randy Magen is the Dean of the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University, where he leads a commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement. He holds a Doctorate in Social Welfare and a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

 

Dr. Magen brings over 30 years of experience in higher education, social work practice, and community leadership. Before joining Wurzweiler, he served as Director of the School of Social Work at Boise State University and spent 17 years at the University of Alaska Anchorage as a professor and Associate Dean of Curriculum. He began his full-time academic career as an Assistant Professor of the Colombia University School of Social Work.

 

As Dean, Dr. Magen oversees Wurzweiler’s on-campus, online and international programs at both the Master’s and Doctoral levels. Dr. Magen works closely with faculty to enhance student learning, strengthen research initiatives, and cultivate meaningful community partnerships. He is dedicated to preparing social work professionals to address complex societal challenges and to make a positive impact on diverse populations.

 

Dr. Magen has held multiple leadership roles with the Council on Social Work Education, including serving as a member of the Board of Accreditation and as a site visitor. He has also contributed extensively to community and professional organizations, including the Pacific Coast Anti-Defamation League and Congregation Beth Sholom in Anchorage, where he served as President.

 

Known for his collaborative leadership style, Dr. Magen is committed to nurturing an environment of academic excellence, supporting faculty development, and inspiring students to achieve both personal and professional success.
