Dean Leslie Halpern is a Professor of Psychology at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology who joined the faculty in August 2020. She earned a BA in Political Science and MS in Educational Psychology/Special Education, both from the University at Albany, SUNY, and her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Vanderbilt University. She completed her clinical internship, and a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in Child Development and Pediatrics at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

 

Dean Halpern’s research has focused on child temperament, executive functioning, emotion regulation and coping with stress, mindfulness-based interventions for children, pediatric psychology, and parenting. She is an accomplished researcher whose work has been funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. She has numerous publications and has presented her research at national and international conferences.

 

Prior to joining the Ferkauf faculty, Dean Halpern spent 24 years at University at Albany, SUNY. At the University at Albany, she was a member of the faculty of the Department of Psychology, and held several administrative positions, including Director of Clinical Training of the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology, Associate Dean for General Education, Interim Director of the Honors College, and most recently, Chair of the Department of Psychology. She is also a licensed Psychologist in the State of New York.
