Admissions Requirements

To be eligible for the Yeshiva University Katz School Transfer B.S. in Nursing, applicants must have:

  • A minimum of 62 undergraduate credits OR an associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution, as illustrated below
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • A grade of B or higher in each nursing prerequisite course
  • Proficiency or higher on TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) exam
  • Criminal background check

Required Undergraduate Coursework
To apply, you must have a minimum of 62 undergraduate credits OR an associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution. You do not need to be currently enrolled at another institution. Credits completed at any point at an accredited institution are accepted, subject to the nursing prerequisite recency requirements below.   

General Education Core (33 credits)
These general education courses must be completed before matriculating into the nursing program:

  • Communications (9 credits): 2 courses in English Composition/Writing (6 credits) and one additional communications course (e.g., Speech/Public Speaking) (3 credits)
  • Humanities (6 credits): 2 courses required (e.g., English Literature, Philosophy, Law, Ethics, or Foreign Language)
  • Social Sciences (9 credits): 3 courses required (e.g., Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, History, Political Science, or Economics)
  • Electives (9 credits): Any accredited undergraduate coursework

Nursing Prerequisite Courses (29 credits)
These nursing prerequisite courses must be completed before matriculating into the nursing program. Courses marked * must be completed within 5 years of acceptance; ** within 10 years. A&P labs must be completed in person.

All applicants to the Katz School Transfer B.S. in Nursing are automatically considered for merit scholarships during the application review process — no separate application required. Students may also apply external scholarships toward tuition. Federal financial aid may be available for eligible students.

Transfer Credit and Advanced Standing

Transfer credits in nursing are not accepted. All students must complete all of the didactic, lab and clinical elements of the nursing program at YU.   

Background Checks

Please note that a felony conviction or previous criminal record could affect eligibility for clinical training placement and, as a result, ability to complete the program requirements. Clinical training sites require a background check prior to placement. Additionally, a felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability to sit for the national certification examination, as well impact eligibility to obtain state licensure.

Can my prerequisite science courses count toward the 62-credit requirement? 
Yes. Courses like Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry, Biology, and Statistics may count toward your 62 credits if completed at accredited institutions.

What is the difference between the Transfer and the Accelerated B.S. in Nursing at YU? 
The Transfer B.S. is for students with 62+ credits who haven't yet earned a bachelor's degree — it takes 21 months. The Accelerated B.S. is for career changers who already hold a bachelor's in any non-nursing field — it takes 16 months. Both lead to the same degree and the same NCLEX-RN eligibility.

Is the Transfer B.S. in Nursing accredited? 

Yes. Both programs are registred by NYSED Board of Regents. Graduates are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN and obtain RN licensure in New York State.
