Our Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) credentialing program based in New York City is for graduate students or MSW holders and is a credentialed program. Substance use disorders pose unique dilemmas for counselors and require specialized training. Earn your Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) Credential. Choose from the option that fits your background best.

Post-MSW CASAC Certification Program

Individuals holding the MSW degree may earn the training hours needed for CASAC eligibility in New York with as few as 100 hours; 85 for Knowledge and 15 for Ethics.

Post-Graduate CASAC Certification Program

Individuals holding a relevant Master’s degree may earn the training hours needed for CASAC eligibility in New York with as few as 130 hours; 85 for Knowledge and 45 for Ethics.  The NY State credentialing board will inform you of other specific hours you may need.

Joint MSW/CASAC Degree

For students not yet holding a master’s degree, we offer an MSW program with a designated track to graduate you educationally qualified for both the LCSW and CASAC in New York State.
