Opportunities to Enhance Your Degree by Earning a Double Major or Minor
It’s easier than you might expect, to earn a double major! This FAQ delves into common questions about “dualing.” For further information, please see the Sy Syms academic advising team.
Yes! A single major is comprised of 9 courses. A double major may be comprised of 12 courses. This means that a double major may only require an additional 3 classes. For example, a finance major must take 6 finance classes plus 3 business electives. Students double majoring in finance and marketing must take 6 finance classes plus 6 marketing classes for a total of 12 courses. No business electives are necessary.
Yes! A student may earn a business major and minor without taking ANY extra courses. For example, a finance major must take 6 finance classes plus 3 business electives. If all 3 electives are in one subject, for example, marketing, that student now has a marketing minor, without taking any extra classes.
Yes! A Sy Syms student may earn a liberal arts minor by taking courses in Yeshiva College or Stern College for Women.
Yeshiva College/Stern College minors require 15-19 credits. Sy Syms students can use their general elective credits towards a liberal arts minor. In many cases, Syms students may use a course towards their minor to fulfill a general education requirement such as humanities, social science or economics. However, this varies by minor; please see your Syms and Yeshiva College/Stern College advisors to confirm the details.
Yes! YC/SCW students must take 6 courses equivalent to 18 credits to earn any business minor. These minors can include any of the five Syms major subjects in addition to a general business minor.
No. A student cannot complete one major at the Sy Syms School of Business and a second major at Yeshiva College or Stern College for Women due to New York State regulations.
