The Programs in Special Education at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology are committed to educating future experts and innovators in special education. Graduates from our programs gain the job training to create inclusive classrooms for children with autism, deaf-blindness, deafness, developmental delays, emotional challenges, hearing impairment, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, traumatic brain injury, intellectual disabilities, speech or language impairment, visual impairment, and other circumstances.

Our online courses will provide you with a thorough mastery of pedagogical practice and evidence-based teaching skills. You may add a specialty in technology in special education as well as literacy.

Your in-person one-on-one supervised student teaching experiences provide deep understanding of inclusive classroom practices and working collaboratively with families and agencies. As a student, you will be placed in an appropriate public or private school which provides inclusive classrooms. If you already have a position teaching or assistant-teaching, student-teaching requirements may be completed at your place of work.

Choose from:

  • Master of Arts in Early Childhood in Special Education: designed to help you educate children with special needs from birth to grade two
  • Master of Arts in Childhood in Special Education: designed for working with children grades one through six
  • Dual Degree in Early Childhood and Special Education or Childhood and Special Education
  • Fast track curriculum If you have already completed a bachelor's degree in education

All programs in Special Education are open to students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree and may be teaching but may not yet be certified.
