Kanarfogel Publishes and Lectures

Dr. Efraim KanarfogelDr. Ephraim Kanarfogel, E. Billi Ivry University Professor of Jewish History, Literature and Law, published two articles in the most recent volume of Dine Israel: Studies in Halakhah and Jewish Law (jointly sponsored by the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and the Faculty of Law at Tel Aviv University): “Restoring Spanish Torah Study to Its Formal Glory: On the Goals and Intended Audiences of Sefer ha-Hinnukh” and “The Adjudication of Fines in Ashkenaz during the Medieval and Early Modern Periods and the Preservation of Communal Decorum.” In addition, Dr. Kanarfogel authored two chapters in the prestigious international reference work, The Cambridge History of the Jewish People (The Middle Ages: Christian Europe), on “Schools and Education” and “Talmudic Studies.” And he has been invited to lecture in November at two distinguished American universities: Duke University, on the topic of “Differing Perceptions of Church Garments and Worship Implements in the Writings and of the Tosafists,” and Yale University, where he will speak about “The (Non-) Reception of Maimonides’ Mishneh Torah in Medieval Ashkenaz.”
