Invitation to a Revel guest lecture and dinner on Thursday, October 25th

All Revel Students are cordially invited to a special dinner on October 25th (Thursday night) preceding a guest lecture by Andrew Kraebel of Yale University. Although he is just completing his PhD, Mr Kraebel is recognized as a world expert on Bible interpretation in Latin in 11th-century France-among Rashi's Christian neighbors.

Mr Kraebel participated in the international project "Encountering Scripture in Overlapping Cultures: Early Jewish, Christian and Muslim Strategies of Reading and Their Contemporary Implications" that Associate Dean Cohen directed in Jerusalem in 2010/11. Fascinating parallels were identified between Rashi's peshat revolution and new trends in Christian Bible interpretation.

Mr Kraebel will deliver a Revel guest lecture (open to the public) on this topic at 8PM in Furst Hall, room 535.

Prior to the lecture, Revel will host a dinner for its faculty, students and alumni at 6PM in the President's Suite (BH 1214), at which Mr Kraebel will share details about his educational background (he studied for ordination at Yale's divinity school and served as a minister for two years), and his studies of medieval Bible commentary in Latin.

There is no charge for this dinner. But space is limited. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Stu Halpern at by Monday, Oct 22.

We look forward to seeing you at the Revel event on October 25th!
