Mountain Lions Outdoors Club Granted Official Status

by Raziel Siegman ('17) The MTA Mountain Lions Outdoors Club, now in its fifth year, has been granted official membership status by the New York New Jersey Trail Conference (NYNJTC). The Trail Conference, which maintains trails all over the metropolitan area, has member organizations that are individually responsible for specific trails, and by its membership the Mountain Lions are now charged with maintaining the "Indian Rock Trail" in Ramapo Mountain State Forest. This trail is not far from the one the freshmen hiked on just a few weeks ago. One of the obligations in maintaining this trail is the footbridge over the Wanaque river, pictured to the right. In the next issue of "Trail Walker" magazine, the NYNJTC's official publication, there will be a feature welcoming the Mountain Lions and speaking a bit about MTA generally. It will be available at this link. Attaining official status is a huge step for the Mountain Lions, because it allows them to add a chessed dimension to their hikes. Not only do they enjoy Hashem's beautiful green earth and get great exercise, but they also now can help ensure that others enjoy the clean and well-marked trails and thereby have the same wonderful experience. Since the Outdoors Club hikes are open to the entire student body and faculty, the Mountain Lions encourage everyone to join them in this new effort. It's free, it's great, and it's making a kiddush Hashem in the broader community!
