Daniel Pollack, professor at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work, published two articles about difficult topics in the February issue of Policy & Practice, the journal of the American Public Human Services Association. In “Legal Perspectives of ‘Sexual Addiction” Pollack looks at the legal concerns of "sexual addiction," which has become a common term, but does not appear in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders as an actual clinical diagnosis. He notes that therapeutic and legislative action cannot be coordinated because there is no standard understanding of the term. Pollack criticizes schools handling of sexual abuse of children by teachers in “Battling the Cover-Up Culture of Child Sexual Abuse in School,” citing the numerous situations in which“schools have been covering up, failing to investigate and report alleged abuse, and allowing teachers to silently leave.” The United States Department of Health and Human Services, Child Welfare Information Gateway, picked up the articles to include in their daily Child Welfare in the News news roundup.
