From 7 to 8 p.m., Dr. Stu Halpern, Revel’s assistant director of student programming and community outreach, will present “Re-Reading Ruth: The Megillah in Light Of Sefer Bereshit,” a presentation and discussion about the way the Book of Ruth references other books in the Bible, especially the Sefer Bereshit [Book of Genesis], and how that affects the meaning of the story. From 8 to 9 p.m., Jackie Rosensweig, a doctoral candidate at Revel and a teacher at Manhattan High School for Girls, will present “Beyond Sarah Schenirer: Inside the History of the Beis Yaakov Movement.” In 1917, Sarah Schenirer, a pioneer of Jewish education for girls, established the Beis Yaakov school network in Poland. Rosensweig’s talk will focus on the effect of Schenirer’s movement on both Jewish education and the Jewish family, especially Jewish mothers. Congregation Ahavath Torah is located at 240 Broad Avenue, Englewood, New Jersey. The program is free, but advance registration is requested. Please RSVP to revelevents@yu.edu.
