YU Students, Alumni, and Friends Celebrate Israel at Annual NYC Parade

Jun 6, 2005 -- Hundreds of Yeshiva University students, alumni, faculty, and friends turned out on Sunday, June 5, to show their love for Israel at New York City’s annual Salute to Israel Parade. The theme for this year’s parade "Saluting Israel, Celebrating America ... Two Golden Lands" marked 350 years of Jewish community life in America and the 57th anniversary of the State of Israel. See more pictures of the parade here. The Yeshiva University float showcased the University’s new tagline “Bring Wisdom to Life.” The tagline expresses the new positioning and mission developed by University President Richard M. Joel, through a major branding research project over the past six months. Wisdom is the dynamic combination of knowledge and values, Torah U’Madda. Students from The Samuel H. Wang Yeshiva University High School for Girls made their own signs and banners, conveying their feeling that Israel is home. Students and alumni from Yeshiva College, Stern College for Women, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and The Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy –– Yeshiva University High School for Boys enthusiastically carried banners as well as Israeli and American flags. Volunteers from Lman Achai, a grassroots student-run organization targeting hunger and poverty in Israel, collected several thousand dollars at the parade. The “Feed Israel’s Hungry” initiative has raised more than $75,000 raised since February. “Blue Fringe,” a rock band made up of four young men who met at Yeshiva University, performed on the float, delighting the marchers and parade participants. The Yeshiva University community joined thousands of marchers from schools, synagogues, and other community groups in a spectacular showing of unity and pageantry.
