Jun 9, 2005 -- More than 2,000 students in the fields of law, medicine, social work, education, Jewish studies, psychology, and a host of undergraduate subjects were awarded degrees at Yeshiva University’s 74th Annual Commencement Exercises on Thursday, May 26 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Photos of the YU graduation. Yeshiva University President Richard M. Joel bestowed honorary degrees on Leon Charney, public affairs talk show host; Linda M. Hooper, creator of the Children’s Holocaust Memorial and Paper Clip Project; Barry Shrage, president of the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston; and Jeffrey B. Swartz, president and CEO of The Timberland Company. Mr. Swartz delivered the commencement address. Separate hooding ceremonies were held for graduates of Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Nathan Lamport Auditorium on YU’s Wilf Campus and Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at the Hotel Pennsylvania, across from Madison Square Garden. Cardozo School of Law of Yeshiva University on Tuesday, June 7. At the ceremony, which was held at Avery Fisher Hall of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, 368 men and women received J.D. degrees, and 43 received LL.M. degrees. Photos of the Cardozo graduation. Dr. Dominick P. Purpura, the Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Dean of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, delivered the commencement address at the College’s 47th annual commencement, which took place at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall on Wednesday, June 1. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the medical school, which opened in September, 1955. Dr. Purpura has been dean at Einstein since 1984 and is the longest serving dean of any medical school in the United States. After delivering the keynote address, Dr. Purpura and YU President Joel conferred 163 M.D. degrees, 16 Ph.D.s and 16 combined M.D.-Ph.D. degrees. Photos of the AECOM graduation.
