Alyssa's Story
#MyYUstory
Hi. My name is Alyssa Wruble and I’m a Political Economy major at YU. I am also Pre-Med.
My YU story is all about the integration of different interests. I always knew I wanted to be a doctor, but I also knew I didn’t want my college experience to be exclusive to biology and medicine. Studying political science and economics introduced me to a new field and focus for my career--Public Health.
With the help of the heads of both the Political Science and Economics departments, I created a Political Economy “shaped major” to merge my interests. One of the things I like about YU is that I am able to pursue various interests academically with my major as well as through extracurricular activities in the healthcare and political realms.
I started YU’s chapter of United Against Inequities in Disease, which helps to educate underserved populations about health and preventative medicine. Our club works on the local level to help with issues such as homelessness, the Opioid Crisis, nutrition and hygiene. Recently the club joined with the Corner Project to do a training session on how to help someone experiencing a drug overdose.
Coming from Memphis, I think YU is a great place to go to college. It’s exciting to be in a place where so much is happening. The administration and professors allow you to take control of your education and individualize your college experience.
