The AE² Lab is co-directed by Dr. Latoya Attis and Dr. Andrea Weinberger.
Dr. Attis has a doctorate in social welfare and is a licensed master social worker in the state of Connecticut. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work, Yeshiva University and a Brandeis–Harvard SPIRE Substance Use Disorder Systems Performance Scholar. Her work focuses on substance use and behavioral health, with an emphasis on health equity among populations experiencing disparities in care. She examines how relational contexts and educational institutions shape substance use and mental health outcomes among adolescents, emerging adults, and college students. Over her career, Dr. Attis has conducted system-oriented, qualitative, survey and clinical treatment development research that integrates experiential learning approaches to substance use and behavioral health training.
Dr. Weinberger has a doctorate in clinical psychology and is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of New York. She is a Professor in the Clinical Psychology Health Emphasis PhD Program at Yeshiva University’s Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and holds secondary appointments as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Department of Epidemiology and Population Health, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her work focuses on substance use with a specific focus on health equity and groups that experience tobacco-related disparities. Over her career, Dr. Weinberger has conducted epidemiologic, survey, qualitative, laboratory, clinical trial, and clinical treatment development research.
Together, the co-directors bring interdisciplinary perspectives that integrate research, clinical practice, and pedagogy to advance equitable outcomes for young people across developmental transitions.
Research Assistants
Tillie Germain: Tillie is a second-year MSW student at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work. She earned her bachelor's degree in Sociology at Hamilton College where she completed an honors senior thesis exploring masculinity and gender dynamics in a boys camp in Maine. Tillie is currently a research assistant in both the Smoking and Nicotine Dependence Research Lab at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and the Adolescent and Emerging Adult Health Behavior and Addiction Interdisciplinary Lab. She is involved with a variety of projects related to substance use and tobacco and nicotine use among adults with HIV. Her research interests include nicotine addiction and substance use, as well as intersectionality among race, gender identity, and LGBTQ+ identity related to health disparities and mental health outcomes. Outside of academia, Tillie enjoys sewing, pottery, reading, and spending time with her dog, Olive.
