The AE² Lab may be a good fit if you are interested in:

  • Adolescent or emerging adult mental health and substance use
  • Health equity and systems-level approaches to care
  • Research that connects lived experience, relationships, and structural context
  • Thoughtful, reflective engagement with complex social and clinical issues
  • Mentored, hands-on training in qualitative and mixed-methods research within a collaborative lab environment

Commitment & Expectations

To maintain a highly mentored and collaborative environment, the AE² Lab accepts a maximum of two students per academic year. Selection is based on mutual fit, interests, and availability. No prior research experience is required, just a willingness to learn, reflect, and contribute. Time commitments vary by project and academic level and will be discussed prior to joining or as new projects begin.

  • Lab involvement typically includes:
  • Regular participation in lab meetings
  • Engagement in ongoing research and mentorship activities
  • A commitment to respectful, reflective, and collaborative work

We are accepting applications for Fall 2026! To express interest in joining the AE² Lab, please email to Dr. Attis (latoya.attis@yu.edu):

  • A brief statement (1–2 paragraphs) describing your interests and what draws you to the lab
  • Your current program and year of study
  • Your resume or CV
  • Any relevant experiences or skills not listed in your resume/CV

Selected students may be invited to a short conversation with the Co-Directors to ensure mutual fit and clarify expectations.
