The Wurzweiler School of Social work is pleased to welcome acclaimed scholar, educator and researcher Dr. Mary Twis as an associate professor.

Recognized for both academic excellence and a deep commitment to social impact, Dr. Twis joins Wurzweiler with an impressive record of teaching, research and leadership. Her recent experience includes a position as assistant professor at Texas Christian University and as a visiting scholar at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She received her MSW and PhD. in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington and her Bachelor’s of Social Work from Texas State University. 

Driven by a passion for improving lives and strengthening communities, Dr. Twis’ research explores some of today’s most urgent social challenges. Her work focuses on human trafficking, interpersonal violence, homelessness, Jewish identity, contemporary antisemitism, and social work educational policy and practice. 

Dr. Twis has made significant contributions to the field of social work, has authored dozens of peer-reviewed journal articles and shared her expertise through conference presentations, keynote addresses and media interviews. Through rigorous scholarship, Dr. Twis’ goals include addressing pressing social issues and improving outcomes for individuals, organizations and communities that have a tangible impact on society.
