MTA Baseball Lions Move On To The Playoffs

By: Donny Book (‘22) All season, the MTA Lions baseball team, led by Coach Shmuli Goldis, had one mantra: “today and today only.”  After their game against Frisch was rescheduled 3 times, the Lions came out ready to win as it would make a difference in their season.  Winning this game would also be important for Frisch, as it would secure the number 1 seed in the playoffs for them. But the Lions were playing for more, for the opportunity to reach the playoffs and continue their run for a much-wanted championship.  Daniel Landa (‘19) was incredible on the mound, as he struck out 10 batters, all while throwing a 7 inning complete game with Catcher Ori Engel (‘22) behind the plate. The mantra “today and today only” really helped out the Lions’ mindset as their offense was completely engaged and ready to hit.  Shortstop Akiva Richman (‘19) was seemingly unstoppable as he went 3-4 with 4 stolen bases and an RBI. In the 2nd inning, First Baseman Azi Goldberg (‘21) hit a single through the gap and then stole second base. The next batter, Center Fielder Coby Sorotzkin (‘19), then drove him in on an RBI double to deep right center field.  In the next inning, Daniel Landa hit an absolute laser to the left field fence, driving in Akiva Richman from third on a long RBI single. In the top of the 7th, with MTA leading 2-1, Akiva Richman added an insurance run to their lead, sending Second Baseman Efraim Landa (‘19) home on an infield single, making the score 3-1. After a few hits and a run in the bottom of the 7th, things were looking a little shaky for the Lions.  Then, after a clutch strikeout and a pop up, Captain Daniel Landa sealed the game for the Lions. With a 3-2 win, the Lions look forward to their playoff matchup against the Ramaz Rams.
