Dr. Michael Berenbaum Speaks to Seniors

by Ari Englander ('17) bd7f536e-144e-4e39-ae05-79ef0b281dae On Monday, the Seniors had the privilege to hear from Dr. Michael Berenbaum, a noted Holocaust scholar and two time Emmy award winner for documentaries he produced. Dr. Berenbaum - who is perhaps best known for his work as the Research Deputy Director of the President's Commission on the Holocaust, Project Director of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and Director of the USHMM's Holocaust Research Institute - spoke to the MTA students about their unique role in history as members of the last generation that will have direct access to living survivors of the Holocaust; it is thus prudent for us to document their stories. The last part of the speech was geared towards the students currently in "Names, Not Numbers," the oral history Holocaust class. Dr. Berenbaum shared several useful tips on how to phrase a question in such a way that will conjure up the most poignant feelings and memories. The students were very happy to receive guidance from such an accomplished professor, writer, and film-maker. Thank you to Dr. Berenbaum for taking the team to speak to us, as well as to Mrs. Tova Rosenberg for setting up this event.
