This past Monday was MTA's annual Shushan Purim Chagigah. Many students came in costumes including a snowman, a magician, hippies, and an Indian, among many others. The Chagigah began with dancing and music by the Shir Soul band (led by our own Music teacher, Mr. David Ross), and everyone enjoyed the lively dancing and school spirit.
Following the dancing, a dvar torah was given by Rabbi Yaakov Glasser of YU's Center for the Jewish Future about the messages of Purim and how they can influence us on a personal level. The three-time championship winning MTA Chorus then performed for everyone. At the Purim costume contest which followed, students showed their costumes to the judging faculty members, Mrs. Levitt and Ms. Haibi, one grade at a time, some acting like the object or personality they were trying to portray. This was a great friendly competition which really showed the creativity of many students. Prizes for the winners included a salami and other food and the grand prize of a one hundred dollar bill. This was followed by more dancing and music and hamantashen for everyone. The program concluded with a very funny Purim video put together by our seniors, which depicted different aspects of MTA in a comical way, and some entertainment by the MTA school band. Altogether, it was a very enjoyable Purim in MTA.
