In Solidarity with San Diego

I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.

-- Ezekiel 20:10

Candle As the Jewish community concluded Passover on Saturday night - the holiday upon which we commemorate our liberation from Egypt - we were painfully reminded that we still remain in a wilderness afflicted by poisonous hatred and bigotry. Our community, together with people of good conscience across the world, mourns the murder of Lori Gilbert-Kaye at the Chabad of Poway synagogue in San Diego, California, and wishes a speedy recovery to those who were injured in this heinous assault. Antisemitism has always been civilization's canary in the coal mine, signaling danger to all vulnerable people within our midst. Today it calls out its warning to both right and left. For the sake not only of Jews, but also all communities who have been threatened by the toxic fumes of prejudice and hatred, let us unite together against those evil forces that would tear our society apart, remembering the common bonds of fellowship and compassion that bind us all together.
