YU's Outstanding Athletes Honored at Awards Dinner

May 5, 2004
-- Each year the Annual Athletic Awards Banquet recognizes the many fine athletes and teams that comprise YU’s wide-ranging athletics program. At this year’s event, athletics director Richard Zerneck, PhD welcomed students, faculty, coaches and President Richard M. Joel. The president spoke warmly of the contributions YU athletes make towards projecting a positive image of YU to the Jewish community around the nation. He continued by saying he was proud to be among the athletes who excel in sports while fulfilling their academic commitments. Awards were given to the most valuable players in YU’s 11 sports, both men and women and to outstanding scholar-athletes, on the Wilf and Beren campuses. Dr. Zerneck received a sustained standing ovation as an expression of affection in which the Yeshiva community holds him. In his seven years at the university, he was a great friend to students and helped raise Yeshiva's profile in the wider athletic community. He was presented with a gold watch by Yeshiva College Dean Norman Adler and Stern College Dean Karen Bacon.
