Beatrice Peyser, Toby Gotesman Schneier, and Jodi Weisleder to be Honored at YU Women's Organization Opera Benefit and Gala on November 8

New York, NY, Oct 22, 2003 -- Beatrice Peyser, Toby Gotesman Schneier, and Jodi Weisleder will be honored at the 58th Annual Opera Benefit and 21st Annual Après Opera Gala of the Yeshiva University Women’s Organization (YUWO) on Saturday evening, November 8, 2003, at the New York State Theater of Lincoln Center. The event will feature a performance of Puccini’s “Turandot” at 8 pm, followed by a gala dinner in the theater’s Grand Promenade. Mrs. Peyser, the Gala’s guest of honor, is vice president of YUWO’s national board and president of its Atlantic Beach Chapter. She has co-chaired numerous past Opera benefits and is also a board member of the sisterhood of the Jewish Center of Atlantic Beach and former board member of the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach and sisterhood presidium of Young Israel of Oceanside. Mrs. Peyser is married to Irwin Peyser, a member of the Board of Trustees of Yeshiva University’s affiliated Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary. The Peysers have four children, Renee (married to Eli) Singer, Miriam (married to Alan) Goldberg, Ruth (married to Jerry) Kestenbaum, and Joshua (married to Helene) Peyser. Mrs. Peyser’s three daughters are graduates of YU’s Stern College for Women. Mrs. Schneier, co-founder of The Hampton Synagogue, will receive the Distinguished Leadership Award. She and her husband, Rabbi Marc Schneier, built The Hampton Synagogue in Westhampton Beach into a nationally acclaimed institution renowned for its spirit, dynamism, and openness to Jews of all denominations and backgrounds. Born and raised in Portland, OR, Mrs. Schneier was imbued with the values of Jewish education and communal leadership by her parents, Holocaust survivors Berta and Natan Gotesman, who are highly respected leaders of Portland’s Orthodox Jewish community. Mrs. Schneier, who is a gifted painter and artist, has been honored by Stern College for Women, State of Israel Bonds, WIZO, Nishmat, National Jewish Outreach Program, and Rivkah Laufer Bikur Cholim Society. Mrs. Weisleder, who will receive the Future Builders Young Leadership Award, owns Jodi International Ltd., a Toronto-based design manufacturer of ladies’ suits, dresses, daywear, eveningwear, and special occasion apparel. She received the North York (Canada) Business Excellence Award and is a four-time recipient of the Matinee Fashion Foundation Award. Mrs. Weisleder supports many local hachnosos kallah (assistance to brides) charities by donating clothing and fabric for brides from poor families and sending new clothing to Israel through the Yad Eliezer charity. She is a member of Toronto’s Shaarei Shomayim Congregation and a board member of the United Synagogue Day School and Netivot Hatorah. She and her husband, Mark Weisleder, have two children, Hillary Alexandra and Jillian Blair. Mrs. Weisleder graduated from Yeshiva University High School for Girls and received her BA from Boston University and her BFA from Parsons School of Design. Co-chairs of the Opera Gala are Caron Enlander, Miriam Goldberg, Elly Hammerman, Ruth Kestenbaum, Sydelle Slochowsky, and Alice Usdan. Debbie Ades, Denise Lederberger, and Eileen Terzi are Opera co-chairs for the Future Builders young leadership group. Dinah Pinczower is national chair of the YUWO board and Harriet Muss, Maguy Naparstek, and Gabrielle Propp are members of the YUWO presidium.
