Schnall Lectures on Religion and Psychology

Dr. Eliezer Schnall, professor of psychology at Yeshiva College, lectured at the annual conference of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion on Sunday, October 31, 2010 in Baltimore, MD. His presentation, "Psychological and Social Characteristics Associated with Religiosity: The Women's Health Initiative," focused on the relationship between religious service attendance and various psychosocial characteristics, including depression, optimism, hostility, social support and social strain. The Women's Health Initiative (WHI) is a long-term national health study that focuses on strategies for preventing heart disease, breast and colorectal cancer and bone fractures in postmenopausal women. This 15-year project involves over 161,000 women ages 50-79, and is one of the most definitive, far-reaching programs of research on women's health ever undertaken in the U.S.
