Public Invited to Attend Yom Iyun on Sunday, April 26 Featuring Leading Scholars

Apr 2, 2009 -- Yeshiva University (YU) invites the public to attend a Yom Iyun [day of learning] entitled Exile and Redemption in Tanach and Jewish History on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at YU’s Wilf Campus, 500 West 185th Street, New York, NY. The day will begin with registration at 9:15 am and conclude at 3 pm. Lectures will cover a broad range of topics, from Sin and Exile in Genesis: A Commentary on the Human Condition to Maimonides and Messiah. The Yom Iyun will feature noted rabbis and scholars including Rabbi Jacob J. Schacter, university professor of Jewish history and Jewish thought and senior scholar at YU’s Center for the Jewish Future; Rabbi Mordechai Cohen, professor of bible and associate dean of Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies; Rabbi Menachem Leibtag, founder of the Tanach Study Center; and Lincoln Square Synagogue’s Community Scholar, Mrs. Elana Stein Hain. The student-organized event follows in the success of their last Yom Iyun on Controversial Figures in Tanach, which drew over 800 attendees and is a project of YU’s Center for the Jewish Future, Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies, TEIQU, SOY, TAC, YCSA, the Office of Student Affairs, and the Office of Alumni Affairs. The Yom Iyun is free to YU students, with a $10 suggested donation for YU alumni and non-YU students and a $15 suggested donation for all others. Lunch and refreshments will be served.
