Cardozo BALLSA Dinner Meets Scholarship Fundraising Goal

The 10th Annual Black Asian & Latino Law Students Association (BALLSA) Alumni Dinner event, held at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law on Nov. 14, 2019, celebrated the accomplishments of honorees David Huntley ’90C, Anusree (Anu) Nair ’09C and Rafael Castellanos ’86C. Huntley is the Senior Executive Vice President & Chief Compliance Officer at AT&T Inc. He is responsible for developing policies to safeguard the privacy of customer and employee information, verifying compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements of the countries and jurisdictions where AT&T operates and ensuring adherence to internal compliance requirements. His responsibilities also include accessibility compliance oversight. Nair is a partner at Klasko Immigration Law Partners’ Philadelphia office. She focuses her practice on business immigration, helping investors, scientists, doctors and other highly skilled professionals achieve their immigration goals. Castellanos was born in Manhattan’s Spanish Harlem. His father was a Guatemalan immigrant and his mother a Nicaraguan immigrant. In 1986, Rafael graduated from Cardozo School of Law. For his volunteer efforts, Castellanos has received numerous commendations from New York City mayors, the New York Police Department, the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, the New York City Council and from the Barack Obama, former President of the United States, who recognized him with the “President’s Call to Service Award,” which recognizes volunteers for their lifetime of service. Last year's BALLSA scholarship recipient Brianna Cloud ’21C also attended. BALLSA Dinner co-chairs Shannon Zhu ’15C and Diego Carvajal ’10C kicked off the program portion of the evening rallying fundraising for the BALLSA Scholarship, eventually raising nearly $38,000, making this year’s BALLSA Dinner the most successful to date.
