Be A Part of a Great Community and Spend Shabbat On Campus

With many events planned this coming year on the Beren and Wilf campuses, you’re sure to have an unforgettable and inspirational Shabbat.
From Beren’s Shabbat on Campus Team On August 23-24, a year of Shabbat on Campus programming started off with a bang on the Beren Campus with Dr. Ari Berman, President of Yeshiva University, and singer/songwriter Mordechai Shapiro. Over 250 students enjoyed a musical Shabbat with delicious food, various shiur [lecture] opportunities, small breakout meals with student leaders around campus and a time to relax with new friends. On the Shabbat of September 6-7, students joined together in Pennsylvania for a Camp Shabbat under the stars. They were joined by Rabbi Yaakov Glasser, David Mitzner Dean of the Center for the Jewish Future, and Professor Nechama Price, director of the Graduate Program in Advanced Talmudic Study for Women, for a truly unique and memorable Shabbat. Join us for future Shabbat programming events - we average more than 160 students at most of them. Our Shabbat programming features speakers, onegs [post-dinner programs], musical tefillah [prayer] opportunities, and so much more. From Wilf’s Shabbat on Campus Team Shabbat on the Wilf Campus also had a fantastic start. The Orientation Shabbaton welcomed first-year students to their first Shabbat on campus, where they were able to hear from the wide spectrum of rabbis on campus, including Rabbi Yehuda Willig, Rabbi Etan Schnall and Rabbi Beny Rofeh. Students had the opportunity to go on walking tours of the Washington Heights neighborhood led by Jonathan Schwab, director of University housing and residence life, in addition to a tour of the neighborhood eruv [ritual boundary] led by Rabbi Schnall. Shabbat concluded with a beautiful musical havdalah [post-Sabbath ceremony] performed by Y-Stud Ari Mandelbaum, ’20SB. Motzai Shabbat [following Shabbat] consisted of a dodgeball tournament in the Max Stern Athletic Center organized by the Resident Advisors followed by a pizza Melave Malka [post-Shabbat meal] hosted by Rabbi Dan Cohen. On September 6-7, the Wilf Campus hosted two Roshei Yeshiva of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS). Rabbi Herschel Schachter and Rav Meir Goldwicht ran a question-and-answer session at the Friday night tisch [gathering] in the Rubin Shul, where dozens of students asked them questions about halachic [Jewish law] and hashkafic [guiding philosophy] topics. Upcoming Shabbat events include: September 13-14
  • Rabbi Yona Reiss, Rosh Yeshiva at RIETS and the Av Beit Din of the Chicago Rabbinical Council, will be giving a lecture on the Wilf campus on the parsha on Shabbat morning as well as speaking during Seudah Shlishit [third meal] in the Furman Dining Hall.
