A Day of Innovation for the YU High Schools

Winners Include Six Aspiring Inventors from Samuel H. Wang Yeshiva High School for Girls (Central) The Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education (CIJE) Innovation Day represents a culmination of a year of course work in the CIJE-Tech high school engineering curriculum. Students are asked to conceptualize, create and engineer their own inventions and then present them at one of five of CIJE’s annual gatherings held across the country. This year’s Innovation Day for the Northeast was held on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Bell Works, formerly historic Bell Labs, in Holmdel, New Jersey. More than 1700 Jewish day and high school students presented their end-of-the-year projects in a competitive, science-fair like setting. Among them were 39 students from the Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy/Yeshiva University High School for Boys (MTA) and 50 students from the Samuel H. Wang Yeshiva High School for Girls (Central). Winning inventors included six students from Central. Esther Akperov and Leora Khaimov won second place in the Innovation in Health Care category; Miram Cherson and Jordana Sparber placed third in Eco-innovation, as did Orah Fisher and Avigayil Gordon in Technology in the Arts.
