MTA Lions Varsity Basketball Season Preview

By: Ikey Gutlove (‘20) Throughout the 2018-19 basketball season, the MTA Varsity Lions saw much success both on and off the court. Whether it was hanging out as a team, coming close to winning the Glouberman Tournament in Los Angeles, or winning the Tier 2 Sarachek Championship, there was plenty of excitement for the Varsity Lions.  Although this year’s roster is almost entirely new, the Lions are looking for repeated success and have been working hard to be in shape and get their team chemistry flowing. The Lions will be led by returning Senior guards Tzvi Zigelstein and Ikey Gutlove and big men Mendel Hein and Elie Goldberg. In addition, the Junior class looks to be promising, headlined by JV standouts Yosef Zakon, Tani Engel, Azi Goldberg, and many other essential members of the team. The Lions all have a common goal of achieving success and believe that they have the talent to compete for a Yeshiva League Championship.  More importantly, the team is committed to representing MTA as proper B’nai Torah, both in the way they play on the court as well their actions and conduct off the court.
