On Tuesday night, MTA’s Tennis Team marched into battle against a potent SAR squad under the bright lights of the USTA National Tennis Center, home of the US Open. Determined to play their best after suffering a string of consecutive losses, MTA came out swinging on all cylinders. All pro Senior Captain Gabe Isaacs, playing his first match at #1 Singles, stumbled out of the gate finding himself down 5-1 early on. However, with sheer grit and determination, he muscled his way back in the match, ultimately prevailing in a tightly contested match 10-8. In 2nd Singles, Junior phenom Dani Lobel looked in top form from the onset and with punishing groundstrokes and gutsy shot-making, Dani cruised to his first victory of the season 10-5. In doubles, MTA fought valiantly but ultimately fell short losing 10-6 and 10-7 respectively. That set the stage for a winner take all scenario in 3rd Singles, where Junior sensation Yedidya Schechter was locked in a tight contest. Up 9 games to 6, Yedidya’s opponent dug deep bringing the score to 9-8. However, in the 18th game of the match, Yedidya found another gear playing composed, fearless tennis and took the game and the match 10-8, securing the victory for MTA. The MTA Tennis Team hopes to continue their winning ways in their final two matches next week.
