On Tuesday night, the MTA Tennis Lions marched in to Brookdale Park Tennis Center to take on the Kushner Cobras. The Lions started hot with a dominating performance from #2 Singles Captain Zack Steiner ('17), with blistering ground strokes and timely serving, easily defeating his opponent 10-2. Following suit was #1 Doubles team Yitzy Weiss ('17) and Ariel Retter ('19), who effectively executed a lob/ put-away at net formula to win their match 10-4, claiming their first Yeshiva league victories respectively. #2 Doubles team Mordechai Schwartz ('19) and Yosef Sullivan ('20), making their Yeshiva league debuts and #3 Singles Ezra Wildes ('17) played valiantly but ultimately succumbed to defeat in their matches. With the score even at 2 games apiece, MTA's fate lay in the hands of #1 Singles phenom Josh Zyskynd ('17) who after battling against a stout Kushner opponent for most of the match, mustered some inner strength to propel him to a 10-7 victory giving MTA the win 3 games to 2. "Other teams got to fear the beard," remarked Coach Eli Gewirtz ('07), referencing Josh's full sefirah beard, after his gritty performance.
