Hockey: Week One

by Yehuda Alter ('16) This past Saturday night marked the beginning of the MTA varsity hockey season, as the Lions faced the SAR Sting at home. It was a hard and physical game, but a string of four quick goals near the end of the first period proved to be too much for the Lions to handle, as they lost 6-0. MTA didn't find much success a couple days later as they played in SAR and lost 5-0 in similar fashion. The Lions went into this past Wednesday against the North Shore Stars looking for not only their first win, but also their first goal. MTA came out flying, dominating the first period and generating plenty of chances, but the elusive goal did not come. The Lions didn't give up, however; and finally MTA got on the scoreboard with a great goal from Yosef Stern in the second. The goal scoring was contagious, and not long after, Rami Nordlicht put one in for a 2-0 MTA lead. Later in the third period, Zach Borgen scored off a rebound and quickly after that Rami got his second goal of the night, securing a 4-1 MTA victory. Hoping to build off their recent win, the Lions are excited for what is sure to be another action-packed season of hockey.
