On Tuesday of Chol HaMoed Sukkos, the MTA Outdoors Club accompanied Mr. Gillers and Mr. and Mrs. Sragow on a hike up Storm King Mountain in Upstate New York. Storm King, which rises over 1300 feet above the Hudson River, affords many 360° views of the surrounding areas, and the mostly clear day allowed us to enjoy the spectacular view to its fullest. Along the way, the MTA Mountain Lions also enjoyed the colorful trees, as the leaves shed their plain green color for the Fall and revealed beautiful yellows, oranges and reds. It was interesting as well to learn the history of the site, including how a determined group of private citizens saved the mountain from a Con Edison power plant that had been planned for that area. The highlight, however, was standing at the top of the mountain and enjoying hot dogs and marshmallows roasted over a fire.
