Ulpan Students Have Extensive Hebrew Conversations for Final Project

by Dovid Baum ('13)
This past week was the last full week of General Studies classes for seniors, and it was a perfect week to celebrate all the progress Morah Haibi's Hebrew ulpan class had made in their preparation for their year in Israel. In order to test the progress of the students, they each had a full conversation in Hebrew with someone to whom they had previously spoken only in English. Fortunately, MTA is filled with a number of faculty members who are fluent in Hebrew and were willing to volunteer their time to help the students. Each student had a conversation with either Rabbi Taubes, Rabbi Schenker, Rabbi Richter, Mrs. Rosenberg, or, of course, Ms. Haibi. Students were asked what their plans for next year were, what they like to eat, and anything the faculty member could think of. Students were also encouraged to ask their own questions. The conversations were a huge success as the students proved how much Hebrew speaking ability they gained in one year.
