Library Book Talk | Miriam Hirsch on Teach Like a Human: Essays for Parents and Teachers

Hear Miriam Hirsch discuss her book Teach Like a Human.
Associate Professor of Education and Chair of the Education Program at Stern College for Women, Miriam Hirsch takes education far beyond the classroom. Teach Like a Human (Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, 2020), a collection of essays, provides moral and practical strategies for parents, as well as fellow educators, to encourage  children to care about themselves, their communities, and the world we share. Drawing on her expertise in organizational theory, curriculum study, pedagogy, and arts education, Dr. Hirsch shows how mindfulness and attention to small moments in everyday life can encourage social, physical, and emotional health. Concurrently she discourages the obsession with academic tests and standards, which can  neglect children’s personal needs and aspirations. Parents and teachers alike can design  experiences to deepen character, empathy, insight--and, above all, find joy and meaning in the world around us. Join  Miriam Hirsch and Deena Rabinovich, Director, Legacy Heritage Fund Jewish Educator's Project, in dialogue about the issues and challenges we face in “teaching like a human.” Date: Tuesday, November 23, 2021 Time: 7:30 - 8:30 pm ET Online: Event URL will be sent via registration email. Registration is required.
