MA in Holocaust and Genocide Studies

Gain a graduate degree from the premier Jewish institution

The Fish Center is currently developing a Holocaust and Genocide Studies program that is steeped in Jewish learning and that will have a far-reaching impact on the shaping of Holocaust memory, scholarship and pedagogy. The Fish Center’s future MA in Holocaust and Genocide Studies comes at a critical time, when survivors of the Holocaust are fewer, knowledge of the Holocaust is declining and incidents of hatred and antisemitism are on the rise both on a national and global scale. Our MA will draw upon the resources and faculty of Yeshiva University, resulting in a unique and interdisciplinary investigation of the Holocaust of European Jewry. Focusing on the murder of six million Jews and millions of others by Nazi Germany and its collaborators, the program will offer an exploration of this watershed event in the history of humankind in conjunction with the study of other genocides that have occurred since the early 20th century up to the present. Ideal for graduates and professionals interested in a career in this growing field, our program will provide you with the knowledge and background needed to prepare you for a role in Holocaust education, research or work at a Holocaust museum.

Program Structure (30 credits)

6 credit of core courses: The Destruction of European Jewry, Cultural Responses to Holocaust, Genocide in the Modern Age: Armenia to Darfur

12 credits for one focus/major track (of three possible track - theology, history or education)

6 credits from two courses (drawn from the other two tracks)

6 credits extracurricular requirement (capstone)
