Dr. Irit Felsen, adjunct professor at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and a clinical psychologist specializing in trauma and traumatic loss, published a paper in the spring issue of the peer-reviewed journal of the Claims Conference, Kavod, titled “Dehumanization in the Treatment of Elderly Holocaust Survivors and Other Elderly Persons with Histories of Prior Traumatization.” In addition, she wrote two chapters in a book based on a study conducted by the Yale University Trauma Study Group, in which she was one of the two primary investigators, published last year by Routledege. The book is titled, Psychoanalysis and Holocaust Testimony: Unwanted Memories of Social Trauma. Felsen will also publish a paper in Psychoanalytic Psychology, entitled “Parental Trauma and Adult Sibling Relationships in Holocaust Survivor Families,” and she has just completed contributions to a book that will be published by Yad Vashem on child survivors of the Holocaust. She has a particular interest in survivors of trauma, and in topics related to post-traumatic reactions, resilience, and intergenerational transmission of effects related to parental trauma. Felsen’s papers have been published in the International Handbook of Multigenerational Legacies of Trauma, the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, the American Journal of Psychiatry, the International Journal of Psychoanalytic Self Psychology (now Journal of Psychoanalysis, Self and Context) and Psychoanalytic Psychology.
