Dr. Margarita Vigodner, assistant professor of biology at Stern College for Women, recently received the prestigious Young Clinical Scientist Award, a research grant from the Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute (FAMRI), valued at $300,000. FAMRI supports research into diseases caused by exposure to tobacco smoke. Dr. Vigodner’s research will focus on the effects of second-hand smoke on male fertility and possible means to improve infertility treatment. She has been studying male infertility for the past ten years. This grant, spanning three years, will generate data for publication in peer-reviewed journals and allow her the opportunity to continue her work through subsequent grants.
