  • $500 Fellowship stipend

General Description

The ‘On the Move’ Fellowship allows current Jewish educators the rare opportunity to visit innovative programs in Jewish Day Schools.  Join a virtual tour of innovative Jewish educational settings and interact with amazing educators. The visits provide a window into student-centered practices in selected host schools, as well as introduce Fellows to best practices.  The goal of the visits is to expand Fellows’ personal teaching practice and to enable them to consider application of the innovations observed to their home schools.

The ‘On the Move’ Fellowships provide students with 3 virtual school visits and 5 evening seminars exploring innovative practice. In addition to these benefits, students receive the opportunity for graduate credit, and, upon successful completion of the program, Fellows receive a $500 stipend.

Testimonials:

“The On the Move Fellowships are an excellent opportunity to meet other educators, to visit other schools, all from the comfort of our own setting. Connecting with stellar teachers in a vibrant and thoughtful space pushed me to explore and improve how I teach.”

—Shalhevet (Sarah) Robinson Cahana, Manhattan Day School

“A transformative and impactful experience . . . we can and should grow professionally from the expertise of teachers and peers outside the confines of our own school's four walls. This revolutionary program would benefit anyone seeking to discover and implement the latest educational paradigms being used in other schools.”

—Rabbi Leib Zalesch, Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School

Participation requirements:

→ Fellows must be teachers of Jewish Studies in a Jewish Day School

→ Fellows are expected to actively participate in all program sessions via zoom

→ Fellows are expected to disseminate something they gained from participation in the program through one of the following:

  • Offer a workshop or other professional development to colleagues at their school
  • Presentation at a faculty meeting regarding what was observed at a visit
  • Develop a series of lessons for a unit incorporating techniques/approaches observed
  • Incorporate techniques/approaches observed during 'On the Move' Fellowship into own classroom practice and write a brief article describing the process

Graduate Credit Option:

Participants in the program are eligible for a generous scholarship if they elect to register for and receive 3 graduate credits from the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration. These credits can be used towards the master’s degree. Those fellows choosing to receive credit for their participation will complete formal assignments and readings in addition to fully participating in the fellowship visits and seminars. There will be a culminating paper/project that describes how curricular content, method of teaching, or other approach observed during the virtual visits might be integrated into teaching practice.

Fellows wishing to receive credit must register at their own expense.

Tuition costs are outlined below and do not include any other required university fees.

  • $2,200 for non-Azrieli students
  • $3,300 for Azrieli students [with standard tuition scholarships applied]

If the course is taken for credit, it can be used towards the master’s degree.  Additional tuition, registration, and University fees are at the participants’ expense.

Credit will be awarded on successful completion of formal assignments and readings following visits and a culminating paper/project that describes how curricular content, method of teaching, or other approach observed during the virtual visits might be integrated into your teaching practice.

Deadline for applications is December 7, 2022.

Fellowships will be announced by December 19, 2022.

Funding for this Fellowship is being provided through a grant from the Mayberg Foundation. The grant is supported by a partnership with the Jewish Education Innovation Challenge, a Mayberg Foundation educational initiative, which works to catalyze radical improvement in Jewish day schools.
