Gift of Jack and Marilyn (z”l) Belz and family, 7893
In many Jewish cultures in North Africa and Asia, the Torah scroll was housed in an upright metal or wooden tik (container). The doors of this tik are embellished with an elegant pattern of tulips and pomegranate blooms, which call to mind the decorative traditions of the former Ottoman Empire and Persia.
