Physics studies the fundamental properties of matter and thus is the most basic of all sciences. The goal of the Physics Department is to expose students to the diversity of problems and problem-solving techniques that can be used far beyond the scope of the physical sciences.
A variety of quantitative techniques and logical reasoning skills that students acquire in the physics program will build the foundation of their future careers in science, research, engineering, architecture, medicine and quantitative analysis, among many others.

Special Options
Students interested in a career in engineering have the option of majoring in Pre-Engineering or choosing from a variety of related majors including Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science.
The University has combined plans with Columbia University and State University of New York at Stony Brook. Under the plans, the student completes a B.A. at Yeshiva University and a B.S. at Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in five years or a M.S. in six years. The Stony Brook program allows students to obtain B.E. or, in some cases, M.E. in five years.
