Jeffrey Trey, J.D., LL.M., M.B.A.
Jeffrey Trey, an expert in the field of international tax, is a clinical professor and director of the Sy Syms graduate tax program. Prior to joining the YU faculty professor Trey was an international tax consultant (at PwC, Crowe, RSM and the Brix Group), an in-house senior tax attorney (at Citigroup) and head of tax for a publicly listed multinational (GFI Group). He also has been a much sought-after speaker on the topic of the U.S. international tax landscape and publishes chapters in books and articles on international tax (publications include a chapter on the GILTI and FDII international tax provisions in Taxation of Intellectual Property (Matthew Bender 2021) and International Tax Issues for Newly Multinational Corporations (44 The Tax Adviser 215 (2013)).

  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Resume
  • International students must take either the TOEFL (code 2990), the PTE, or the IELTS (code Yeshiva University Graduate School) — scores are valid for 2 years. You may be exempted if you have earned a degree from an institution in which English is the language of instruction. Learn more about visa requirements.

Pre-Requisites for M.S. in Taxation:

All candidates, regardless of their undergraduate major, must have taken courses equivalent to Federal Income Taxation I and Federal Income Taxation II prior to enrolling in the program. In addition, to satisfy the CPA education requirements, all candidates, regardless of their undergraduate major, should successfully complete the following 3 credit courses prior to graduating from the M.S. in Taxation program:

  • Auditing
  • Intermediate Accounting
  • Managerial or Cost Accounting

Students With Undergraduate Degree In Business Discipline Other Than Accounting:

  • Once your application is received, your transcript will be evaluated to create a schedule that will address your specific needs. Students should begin matriculation with 27 business credits and may be required to complete courses in accounting during the summer(s) to satisfy New York State Licensure Requirements.
  • If courses are not taken at YU, they must be taken at an institution that is AASB accredited and submit their transcript to YU. A C or better is required for credit.

Students with Sy Syms Degree in Business Discipline Other Than Accounting:

  • Complete six credits in taxation (Federal Income Taxation I and II, or their equivalent)
  • The admissions committee will review your transcript and assess the individual need for additional classes
  • Additional classes may be taken during the summer
