We have a day devoted to giving thanks. We have two days for shopping and getting deals. And now in its third year, #GivingTuesday is the most widely-recognized day for charitable giving.
What Is #GivingTuesday?
#GivingTuesday is a growing global movement which marks the start of the holiday giving season. It is quickly becoming the world’s most popular day for online giving. Following the widely recognized shopping events known as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is a day that inspires personal philanthropy, collaboration and service for a better world.
To date, more than 10,000 partners in 46 countries have joined and supported #GivingTuesday. Last year over 50 million people worldwide gave of their time, resources, skills and online presence to support this project.
Why #GivingTuesday at YU and How Can You Help?
Consider the following:
- It takes $20 million in endowed funds to earn just $1 million that can be used for financial aid; in contrast, contributions to the Annual Fund are 100 percent current-use.
- Tuition covers 67% of the cost of educating a YU undergrad. And close to 80% of all students receive some measure of scholarship support.
- Eight out of every 10 students receive $24,000 per year (on average) in scholarship or financial aid.
- Approximately 20% percent of alumni make contributions each year to YU.
This year, Yeshiva University will once again participate in #GivingTuesday, on December 2, 2014.
Join us and be a part of the global movement. This holiday season, YOU can make a difference by giving the gift of scholarship on #GivingTuesday at www.yu.edu/Dec2.
