WELCOME TO PRE-ENGINEERING AT YC!
In today’s world, engineers should expect to contribute more than mere technical competence. They must be alert to the implications of their work and cognizant of the changing priorities of society as well as its timeless values.
Engineers must also be concerned about the effects of science and technology on the environment and quality of life, and be prepared to apply their knowledge of applied science to an ever-changing array of emerging technologies.
UNDERGRADUATE MAJOR
Students interested in an engineering career have the option of majoring in pre-engineering or choosing from a variety of related majors including chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and physics.
The pre-engineering major in connection with an undergraduate engineering degree and minor additions is also an excellent preparation for graduate or professional study in fields such as applied mathematics, applied physics, law, medicine, and math/science education.
JOINT PROGRAMS WITH COLUMBIA
The university offers combined programs with Columbia University.
Under the 3-2 plan, a student who attends Yeshiva University for three years, maintains a 3.0 average, and receives the recommendation of the pre-engineering adviser is admitted to Columbia University’s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science as a junior. The student attends Columbia University for two years and, upon successful completion of the program, Yeshiva University confers the Bachelor of Arts degree and Columbia University confers the Bachelor of Science degree.
Under the 4-2 plan, any student who graduates from Yeshiva College with an appropriate major and maintains a 3.3 average will be automatically considered for admission to the master’s program in engineering at Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Science.
JOINT PROGRAM WITH STONY BROOK
Additionally, students may participate in a joint program with Stony Brook University. This 3-2 program allows students to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yeshiva University as well as a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Stony Brook University.
Under this arrangement, students who come to Yeshiva University after spending a year in Israel, in most cases, may count that year toward their first year in Yeshiva University. They may then complete the remaining Yeshiva University portion of the combined program in two years on its campus.
Students who wish to attend Stony Brook University for biomedical engineering must first complete three years on campus at Yeshiva University.
