Dr. Shatz specializes in the relationship between science and religion, the philosophy of law
and religion, Jewish political philosophy, and Jewish ethics.
As part of the Orthodox Forum Series, he authored Tikkun Olam: Social Responsibility in
Jewish Thought and Law. He is also co-editor of Abraham Isaac Kook and Jewish
Spirituality; Definitions and Definability: Philosophical Perspectives; and Contemporary
Philosophy of Religion. He is the incoming editor of the Torah U-Madda Journal. Dr. Shatz
recently was a winner in the John Templeton Foundation’s worldwide competition for the best
course proposals in the area of religion and science.
