    The following courses are normally half (.5) credit. Wellness and Fitness or courses that involve participation on a varsity team may be taken for half (.5) or one (1) credit.

    PED 1002 Weight Training
    .5 credit

    Students learn the proper techniques of exercising with weights and how to properly set up an exercise program that includes the use of free weights and selectorized machines. Intensive exercise will be required.

    PED 1005 Strength Training
    .5 credit

    Students learn to properly train for increasing strength. Emphasis on safety and free weights.

    PED 1120 Team Golf
    .5-1 credit

    Practice and competition on the golf team.

    PED 1121 Elementary Golf
    .5 credit

    Teaches the rules and proper techniques of the sport. For those students with no prior experience. Held off-campus.

    PED 1321 Elementary Volleyball
    .5 credit

    Teaches the rules and proper techniques of the sport. For those students with no prior experience.

    PED 1326 Team Volleyball
    .5-1 credit

    Practice and competition on the volleyball team.

    PED 1346 Team Tennis
    .5-1 credit

    Practice and competition on the tennis team.

    PED 1421 Elementary Basketball
    .5 credit

    Teaches the rules and proper techniques of the sport. For those students with no prior experience.

    PED 1426 Team Basketball
    .5-1 credit

    Practice and competition on the basketball team.

    PED 1511 Team Soccer
    .5-1 credit
    Practice and competition on the soccer team.

    PED 1611 Team Baseball
    .5-1 credit

    Practice and competition on the baseball team.

    PED 2111 Physical Fitness
    .5 credit

    Teaches the proper techniques of exercise without the use of free weights or selectorized machines. Concentration on aerobic and isometric exercise. Intensive exercise will be required.

    PED 2112 Wellness and Fitness
    .5-1 credit
    This is the core of the Physical Education program. This course combines both classroom and performance sessions. Students learn about mental health, aerobic exercise, weight training and physiology. Special concentration on lifetime fitness.

    PED 2113 Wellness and Fitness II
    .5-1 credit

    Combined classroom and performance. Students explore in depth the concepts learned in Wellness and Fitness.
    Prerequisite: Wellness and Fitness.

    PED 2316 Team Cross-Country
    .5-1 credit

    Practice and competition on the cross-country team.

    PED 2421 Elementary Wrestling
    .5 credit

    Teaches the rules and proper techniques of the sport. For those students with no prior experience.

    PED 2426 Team Wrestling
    .5-1 credit

    Practice and competition on the wrestling team.

    PED 2441 Tai Chi I
    .5 credit

    Teaches the fundamentals of the martial art. Concentration on meditation and the proper performance of the movements. For those students with no prior experience. No prerequisite for Tai Chi I or Tai Chi II. Students may take either or both sections.

    PED 2442 Elementary Martial Arts
    .5 credit

    Teaches the art of self-defense. For those students with no prior experience.

    PED 2443 Intermediate Martial Arts
    .5 credit

    Student explore in depth the concepts learned in the elementary course. Students with prior martial arts experience may take this course.
    Prerequisite: elementary martial arts or written permission from the instructor.

    PED 2444 Tai Chi II
    .5 credit

    Teaches the fundamentals of the martial art. Concentration on meditation and the proper performance of the movements. For those students with no prior experience. No prerequisite for Tai Chi I or Tai Chi II. Students may take either or both sections.

    PED 2445 Intermediate Tai Chi
    .5 credit

    Students explore in depth the concepts learned in the elementary course.

    PED 2461 Elementary Fencing
    .5 credit

    Teaches the rules and proper techniques of the sport. For those students with no prior experience.

    PED 2466 Team Fencing
    .5-1 credit

    Practice and competition on the fencing team.

    PED 3101 Learn to Swim
    .5 credit

    Teaches the five basic swimming strokes. For those students unable to complete one length of the pool.

    PED 3104 Intermediate Swimming
    .5 credit

    Students refine their performance of the swimming strokes and begin a swimming regimen. For those students already able to complete five lengths of the pool.

    PED 3106 Lifeguard Training
    .5 credit

    Teaches the proper techniques of first aid, CPR and lifeguarding. Red Cross Certification may be obtained with satisfactory completion of the course. Additional fee for Red Cross certification.

    PED 4406 Physical Education Fieldwork
    .5 credit

    The practice of leadership in implementing rules of play. Students in this course act as commissioners of the various intramural programs. Special permission required.

    PED 4631 Corrective Physical Education
    .5 credit

    For students with physical disabilities or special medical considerations. Students with written medical documentation and approval of the Student Health Center and the athletic director are placed in a Wellness and Fitness class. In lieu of the performance component, a written assignment is required.
