ENTREPRENEURSHIP SKILLS AND STRATEGIES

This seminar is designed for those considering transitioning to some form of entrepreneurial enterprise, those who have recently started or are about to start a new venture, as well those engaged in social entrepreneurship. The program will provide attendees with access to a network of business experts and faculty with substantial expertise in entrepreneurship.

Among the issues that will be addressed:

  • Deciding whether to pursue an entrepreneurial venture—understanding both risks and upside opportunities
  • Understanding the characteristics and myths of the entrepreneur—critical success factors
  • Determining whether you have “the right stuff” to be an entrepreneur
  • Understanding the alternatives: pros and cons of starting your own, buying, franchising a business
  • Identifying and evaluating an entrepreneurial opportunity
  • Developing a practical and effective business plan and start-up strategy

This program may be taken alone or in conjunction with the December 6 seminar, Growing and Harvesting an Entrepreneurial Ventures.

DECEMBER 6, 2009 

GROWING AND HARVESTING AN ENTREPRENEURIAL VENTURE

This seminar will be of interest to those who have started up an entrepreneurial venture and are facing business challenges or those looking to expand, harvest or transition their venture.

Among the issues that will be addressed:

  • Developing a viability assessment for your venture—strengths, weaknesses, resources, competition and strategy
  • Improving your business plan
  • Choosing a legal structure;  Discussion of options
  • Funding, financing and attracting investors: debt vs. equity financing; venture capital vs. private equity; angel investors; bootstrapping
  • Building the organization and management/leadership team
  • Developing a turn-around strategy, harvesting, transitioning and/or exiting venture.

A team of experts in the field of entrepreneurship will lead the seminar.

LEADERSHIP IN THE NOT-FOR-PROFIT SECTOR: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN THE NEW ECONOMIC REALITIES

This seminar is presented in collaboration with Yeshiva University’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work.

This seminar is for senior and mid-level leadership in not for profit organizations.

The seminar will help prepare non-profit board members, executive directors, managers, administrators, and professionals to manage more effectively and to develop sustainable strategies that maximize and enhance opportunities for their organization. This seminar also focuses on key aspects of managing in different not-for-profit organizational settings. It identifies some of the new challenges facing the non-profit sector and provides participants with the skills, tools and knowledge necessary to meet the challenges of managing within today’s complex and competitive arena of not-for-profit organizations.
